Many times when we are at the beach we see people setting up full canopies instead of just umbrellas. We thought we'd give it a shot this year, and while it is a bit more work haul out to the beach and set up, having a big patch of shade for the kids to play in has been great.
To keep it from blowing away, we bought four small sand buckets, which I tied off to each corner and then buried. It was probably a waste of time today, as there is very little wind.
Wow .. that's a really nice block of shade! It's breezy enough to billow out the top, tho, and one decent gust would lift it all up, so I do think it was worth your effort to bury the sand buckets (love that: simple and effective!). Looks like another beautiful day at the beach!! :-D
